Last August, I moved to Woodland to start an intense 11-month nursing program to obtain another bachelor’s degree. I participated in a kickboxing gym in the bay and wanted to continue my fitness journey here in Woodland. Unfortunately, I did not see any. My neighbor suggested CrossFit Epoc and emphasized the amazing progress he made after becoming a member. I was initially hesitant, so I ended up joining a cheap neighborhood gym and worked out alone. Sadly, I lost motivation and after 6 months, gained about 15lbs and became super unhealthy. I knew things had to change so I finally took the leap to join CrossFit Epoc in March 2018. I remember after my first work out with Coach Armando, I was so sore I didn’t come back for almost two weeks. However, as I began making CrossFit a routine, I started seeing changes and was able to do things I never thought I could.
In the past 5 months, I have lost 24lbs (14.4% of my body weight)! It’s satisfactory to see the progress I’m making, but I’ve come to the epiphany that it isn’t just being a certain number on the scale. CrossFit has allowed me to go on this journey of figuring out what I am capable of and overcoming things I once thought I couldn’t. Before joining, I was only able to squat 115lbs and dead lift 125lbs. Now, I can squat 205lbs and dead lift 245lbs! Another thing I never thought I could do was rope climb, but a few days ago I surprised myself and made it to the very top! CrossFit has made me stronger than I have ever been. I also love how there is a different workout every day, testing my strength in a well-rounded routine. The coaches are always there to help celebrate my accomplishments and build upon my areas of improvement.
CrossFit has not only helped me physically, it has also helped me emotionally and mentally. I hit a hard time in my life during the month of June. I had 5 different drastic life changing events that impacted me in a span of 6 weeks. I was so mentally drained that I started seeing a psychiatrist to help me through these trying times. It felt like I couldn’t catch a break in life. CrossFit became a safe haven for me. I was happy during those times I was able to go to the box. Even though I would walk in crying and emotionally exhausted, I left lighter and happier each time I left. It wasn’t just because I got a good work out. It was because of the community and the support I have gained from the members and coaches. They were there for me when I wasn’t even there for myself.
CrossFit Epoc saved me and I am forever grateful to the owners Brian and Lisa. It has helped me in areas beyond physicality. It was there for me to relieve the stress accumulating in my personal life. It has given me the confidence and strength I needed to move on and enjoy life. Joining was one of the best things I have ever done for myself. I fell in love with this place and I know you would too. I highly recommend CrossFit Epoc to everyone. It changed my life and I know it can change yours!
